October 16

Morning

Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. § Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. § Whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord. § I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. § Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business? § Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.

Brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble. § We desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. § Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Evening

Do not lead us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. § Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”

Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere … like the garden of the Lord … Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan … But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord. § [God] delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked … The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations. § Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
