A [husband] of noble character who can find? Proverbs 31:10
Sixty years ago today, on September 2, 1966, I walked down the aisle on my father’s arm in the same mountain chapel where my parents had been married years before. It was the chapel where I had gone to church every week of my life, where I had been baptized and where I had given my first public testimony. But on this night, I would say my vows of commitment before God and hundreds of witnesses “to take Danny to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish ‘til death us do part.” As I look back now, those vows describe our forty-nine-year marriage.
We “parted” eleven years ago, on August 19, 2015. Since he is not here to enjoy this day with me, I wanted to include you as I celebrate by sharing pictures and paraphrasing a few verses from Proverbs 31 that describe Danny Lotz.
A husband of noble character who can find? He is worth far more than jewels. His wife has full confidence in him and lacks nothing of value. He brings her good, not harm, all the days of her life…He is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land…He is clothed with strength and dignity, he laughed at the days to come. He speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on his tongue. He watches over the affairs of his household and does not eat the bread of idleness. His children arise and call him blessed; his wife also, and she praises him. Many men do noble things, but you surpass them all.
Thank you, Abba Father, for giving me a husband of noble character. A man’s man. A leader of men. A man whose friends described as God’s Gladiator. A man who surpassed any other man I’ve ever met. On this wedding anniversary, my heart is filled with overwhelming gratitude and praise for Your goodness and blessings which have been more abundant than I could have thought to have asked for sixty years ago.
