National Day of Prayer Statement

Statement by Anne Graham Lotz, Chairperson
National Day of Prayer
August 22, 2017

It has been my privilege to serve as the chairperson of the National Day of Prayer for the past eighteen months. One of the highest honors I have ever been given was when Shirley Dobson asked me to take up the mantle she had carried for twenty-five years, having received it from the founder, Vonette Bright. My life has been immeasurably enriched by interacting with a network of faithful men and women who pray daily for our great nation.

The board of directors for the National Day of Prayer has recently restructured the organization to include a position for president. They have asked Dr. Ronnie Floyd to take this position and he has accepted. This position carries with it the understanding that Dr. Floyd will be the sole voice, face, and image of the National Day of Prayer. For practical purposes, this eliminates the need for a chairperson.

Dr. Floyd is a friend. I have shared ministry platforms with him, and will do so again next summer in Jerusalem at Joel Rosenberg’s Epicenter Prayer Summit. Dr. Floyd is a strong leader who has a sincere heart for revival. Although the chairman of the board has invited me to remain involved in the National Day of Prayer for this next year, I feel led by God to step aside in order to give Dr. Floyd total freedom to lead.

In reflection, I believe God gave me the unique blessing of being a buffer between the former style of leadership, and what is planned at present and for the future. I rejoice in His goodness and grace.

I will continue to carry the National Day of Prayer in my heart…and on my knees. I have assured Dr. Floyd that I will be in the wings, available for any counsel he may need, while cheering him on.

For the Glory of His Great Name,
